En esta nota te contamos quién es el hombre al que homenajeamos con el nombre de la temporada deportiva número 106.
Oscar Carlos Schiaffarino Fontana, nacido el 16 de marzo de 1931 y graduado como Doctor en Medicina en abril de 1958, construyó a lo largo de su vida una destacada carrera como urólogo, docente y científico, además de haber desempeñado un rol activo en el desarrollo del deporte nacional y de nuestra querida Liga Universitaria de Deportes en particular.
Como Secretario del Consejo de Neutrales de la Liga, fue un actor fundamental para la afiliación a la Federación Internacional del Deporte Universitario (FISU). En 1972 había sido delegado ante la FISU en la Universiada que tuvo lugar en Roma, Italia, y en 1974 concretó la afiliación de la Liga Universitaria de Deportes: desde entonces, somos la federación rectora del deporte universitario en el Uruguay.
Siempre inquieto y con afán de colocar a nuestra Liga en un sitial de privilegio en la escena mundial del deporte universitario, lideró las gestiones para obtener la Sede del V Campeonato Mundial Universitario de Fútbol, que se organizó en 1976 y tuvo a Uruguay como anfitrión (primera vez que se organizaba un evento de estas características fuera de Europa). Además, ofició como Secretario del Comité Organizador en dicho histórico torneo, que reunió a miles de espectadores en el Estadio Centenario y otros escenarios de todo el país.
A sus 88 años y en el día de nuestro aniversario número 105, agradecemos a Oscar su invalorable aporte, dedicación y cariño, y como forma de retribuirlo, lo homenajeamos nominando “Oscar Schiaffarino” a la presente temporada deportiva. ¡Gracias, Oscar!

Panathlon Internacional – Panathlon Club de Montevideo– 30 años de Socio. Presidente por dos períodos (1999-2002). Gobernador del Panathlon Internacional del Distrito que integran Chile, Perú, Paraguay y Uruguay. Gobernador Distrito XI.
